自1996年以來從網上收集國內、外有關暴發性胰腺炎(fulminant acute pancreatitis, FAP)有53篇，其中有9篇為動物（狗3，豬4，鼠2）實驗，8篇為器官移植后所發生的，從臨床診斷為FAP的只有36篇，且多為個案報告，有5篇報告有3～5例，還有為驟死者4例，這究竟屬不屬FAP范疇內，難以肯定。因為至今文獻中仍沒有比較準確的概念或分型。然而各地醫院均有遇到類似癥狀的FAP，治療困難，來勢兇猛，病情險惡，死亡率高。
